Alexander Zverev sends another message to Jannik Sinner (and Carlos Alcaraz)

Alexander Zverev defeated American Learner Tien 7-6(3), 6-3 in one hour and 50 minutes in the second match of the third day of the 2026 Laver Cup, held at The O2 Arena in London. This was a huge victory for the German, who secured the three decisive points that allowed Team Europe to mathematically clinch the tournament against Team World, closing out the series 13-5.

The first set was a real battle. Tien played with great consistency, forcing the world No. 2 into a very intense match. Both players effectively held their service games, keeping the match evenly balanced until the tiebreak. At the decisive moment, however, Zverev drew on his greater experience. The German raised his level of play, particularly on the defensive end, limiting errors and gradually taking control of the rallies. The tiebreak ended 7-3, giving Zverev the first set.

In the second set, the German continued to push forward, proving particularly effective with his first serve. Throughout the match, Zverev won 80% of the points played on his first serve, while Tien kept fighting from the baseline but was unable to avoid the break.

Zverev capitalized on one of his six break points and, once he took the lead, managed his advantage without much difficulty. The German held serve all the way to a 6-3 victory, thereby giving Team Europe the three points needed to mathematically clinch the series.

The European team, led by captain Yannick Noah, thus lifts the Laver Cup once again, one year after Team World’s victory in San Francisco.
