Presidents Cup: U.S. Wins in Front of Donald Trump: “A Fantastic Comeback”

U.S. President Donald Trump returned to the Presidents Cup as honorary chairman, a role he had previously held in 2017. On Sunday, he addressed the crowd briefly: “These people want to watch golf.”

Just as happened nine years ago, Trump witnessed a victory by the U.S. team. The Americans managed to overcome their deficit on the final day and win the competition once again. Upon his return to Andrews Air Force Base, near Washington, the president commented: “Our team played incredible golf. They started with a huge deficit and came away with an extraordinary victory—a truly fantastic comeback.”

His visit to Medinah Country Club, near Chicago, marked Trump’s fourth appearance at a golf tournament this year. Arriving before the start of the final twelve singles matches, he greeted players and caddies from both teams and watched part of the competition. Afterward, he also took part in the closing ceremony and the presentation of the trophy to the U.S. team.

The visit involved particularly strict security measures. The Secret Service restricted spectator movement in the area around the first fairway while the president was present.

Trump had previously served in the same role at the 2017 Presidents Cup, held at Liberty National, near New York. On that occasion, he arrived during the final stages of the tournament and participated in the awards ceremony alongside the American players. This time, however, he watched the competition from the start of the decisive session.
