Milan: Bad news for Ruben Amorim—Alexis Saelemaekers forced to sit out

There is some discouraging news on the injury front for Milan and its head coach, Ruben Amorim. On Tuesday, the Rossoneri announced that Alexis Saelemaekers would be sidelined, forced to temporarily halt his progress after sustaining an injury during training.
“Alexis Saelemaekers suffered a sprain to his right ankle during today’s training session. Medical tests have ruled out bone fractures and damage to the joint capsule and ligaments. His recovery will be assessed on a day-to-day basis,” reads the statement released by the club based on Via Aldo Rossi.
While the tests have ruled out more serious consequences, the Portuguese coach has temporarily lost a player who had been a regular starter early in the season. Saelemaekers has, in fact, taken the field in five of Milan’s six official matches, starting on two occasions.
The Belgian also made his mark with an assist for Gonçalo Ramos in the match against Venezia, confirming his value within the Rossoneri’s attacking rotation. The only match he had missed so far was the away game against Lazio, when he remained on the bench for the entire 90 minutes.
For Amorim, the good news is that there are no bone fractures or ligament damage, although the recovery timeline remains uncertain. In fact, there is a need to carefully manage the return of a player who, while not always a starter, has carved out an important role for himself in the first few weeks of the new season.
