The Tofiq Bahramov Stadium in Baku is set to host the match between Azerbaijan and Liechtenstein, part of the group stage of the 2026-27 UEFA Nations League, League D, Group 2. The hosts are looking for their first win after a draw in their opener, while the visitors need to bounce back after a rough start.

Aykhan Abbasov’s Azerbaijan kicked off its campaign with a 1-1 draw on the road against Lithuania. After being relegated from League C in the last edition, the Azerbaijani national team aims to get back on track with a positive result in front of its home crowd. Head-to-head records favor the hosts, who have won three of their five previous matches against Liechtenstein.

Liechtenstein, coached by Konrad Fünfstück, enters this match on the back of two consecutive losses. The first came in their group debut, a 2-0 home loss to Lithuania, followed by another defeat by the same score in a friendly against Malta. The Principality’s recent history in the Nations League also highlights the team’s struggles; in their previous 21 matches in the competition, they have recorded only two wins, compared to 14 losses.

Abbasov is expected to rely on Renat Dadashov up front, with Mahir Emreli ready to provide quality on the wing. Rahil Mammadov is expected to start at center back, while Balayev should be in goal.

Liechtenstein, on the other hand, is expected to field the same attacking duo of Fabio Luque-Notaro and Ferhat Saglam. In midfield, Aron Sele will be in charge of orchestrating play, with captain Nicolas Hasler called upon to provide experience and balance.

Probable lineups:

Azerbaijan (5-4-1): Balayev; Mutallimov, Mammadov, Huseynov, Dashdamirov, Abbasov; Emreli, Khaybulaev, Safarnov, Isayev; Dadashov.
