Jannik Sinner: Flavio Cobolli Shares His Thoughts After the Recent Practice Session

In an interview with *Corriere dello Sport*, Flavio Cobolli looked back on his fairy-tale 2026, which allowed him to break into the world’s top 10. Now the Roman tennis player dreams of competing in the Finals in Turin: “I never thought in my career that I’d be able to finish the year among the top 8. I have five tournaments left, and I’ll have to push myself because I’m feeling a bit tired. But instead of focusing on that, I want to think about how much fun it would be to play there.”
The Italian athlete also spoke about Jannik Sinner: he recently trained in Monte Carlo with the world No. 1, who has been sidelined since the Wimbledon final due to a knee injury. “When I train, I focus on myself, but we had fun and felt good on the court. We played as much as we did, but I didn’t think he looked bad. He certainly has his own recovery timeline, and he’ll know how best to manage his return.”
“I’m rooting for him and hope he can return as early as Shanghai. If that doesn’t happen, he surely has his reasons and the right people advising him,” Cobolli continued.
Cobolli didn’t hide his annoyance at the criticism that followed his elimination at Wimbledon: “In Italy, we’re getting too used to the good life. For a result like a quarterfinal at Wimbledon not to be appreciated—that’s a little crazy to me. Ten years ago, we could only dream of a quarterfinal like that: for me, it’s always something to celebrate, even for someone with my ranking. If someone had told me at the start of my career that I’d make it to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, I would have burst into tears. It’s true, I played poorly in that match, but I don’t think I had a bad week at Wimbledon. People can think what they want. There are keyboard warriors who even make us doubt ourselves a little.”
