Sofia Goggia gets back into the swing of things: a clear goal after her “first training session”

Sofia Goggia is back in action. After a few difficult weeks, Italy’s speed queen has resumed her training ahead of the upcoming start of the season. The champion from Bergamo, who returned early from Patagonia after suffering two viral infections, has moved to Sicily, to the town of Favignana.
For now, she’s focusing solely on intense gym workouts and athletic exercises with her longtime trainer, Matteo Artina. “A first taste of training after a month of inactivity,” is how Sofia described it, as she has returned to setting her goals following the frustrating hiatus that forced her to miss nearly 25 days of skiing.
Her first competitive event is the giant slalom scheduled for October 24 on the Rettenbach Glacier, above Sölden. This is a rather soon-to-come date for the Italian skier, who had experienced positive results in this discipline in Ushuaia and will aim to make her comeback just in time for the start of the World Cup.
“Ushuaia 2026 🇦🇷, a short, intense, and challenging trip,” she wrote on Instagram. “I’m very disappointed that I was forced to return early and had to skip part of my training, even though I’m very happy with how the first week on skis went. I sincerely thank all the doctors at the San Donato Group and all the specialists for the invaluable support they’ve given me since I returned.”
“Now that the truth has come to light and we’ve identified the problem (I had two viral infections that caused “unusual” symptoms), we can move forward to resolve it, but to do so, we need time and a lot, a lot of patience… just like always.
I am indeed improving, but I’m still quite weakened at the moment. See you soon… nec recisa recedit (“not even a wound recedes”—Ed.)”.
