Sebastian Frey breaks his silence on Fiorentina’s Centennial match at the Franchi and, in a lengthy social media post, refutes what he calls “fake news” that has been circulating in recent hours—complete with a label on the photo suggesting a demand for a high appearance fee: “Fiorentina knows full well that I played a central role in organizing this event, because I know the friends at Operazione Nostalgia very well and have seen how they’ve worked for years, creating events FROM SCRATCH that have made history.”

“From day one, I worked to ensure the two parties reached an agreement to bring to the Franchi a match that, until September 2, had never been seen before. I can say and affirm without hesitation that without my support, this match would never have been played, and both Fiorentina and Operazione Nostalgia know this very well”.

“Given the role I’ve played in Fiorentina’s history, I’ve received the same ‘treatment’ as other legends of my generation. I’m happy to have contributed and to have done a job that, perhaps, should have been done by someone on the Fiorentina team. There’s too much fake news circulating on social media; at first, I thought about not responding, but since I have nothing to hide and I know how much I contributed to the success of this event, well, maybe it’s time to set the record straight. And if anyone wants to refute my statements, I’m here,” concluded the former Viola goalkeeper.
