Paul Lapeira wins the Coppa Agostoni and claims his second victory of the season. The French rider from Decathlon-CMA CGM prevailed in Brianza, crossing the finish line ahead of American Brandon McNulty, the newly crowned world champion.

Just one week after winning the rainbow jersey, McNulty came close to celebrating his first victory as world champion. However, Lapeira denied him the win, getting the better of him in a tight sprint at the end of a breakaway that formed around the midpoint of the race.

The 26-year-old Frenchman, who had already won the Tour des Alpes-Maritimes in early April, beat McNulty in the sprint, Andrea Raccagni Novero of Soudal-Quick Step and Mauro Schmid of Jayco-AlUla, the other riders who had joined him in the decisive breakaway.

This is a particularly significant victory for Lapeira, after coming close to winning the Lombardy classic in the last two editions: fourth last year and third the year before.
