After weeks of rumors, speculation, and updates on his physical condition, Jannik Sinner confirmed in a video posted on his social media channels that he will not return to the court before 2027. The world No. 1 explained that he made the decision together with his medical staff, opting for an approach based on the utmost caution to definitively resolve the tendinopathy in his right knee that is forcing him to stay off the tour.

In his message to fans, the South Tyrolean did not hide his disappointment over a season cut short, but he reiterated his determination to look beyond the immediate future in the best interest of his career. “Hi everyone, I wanted to give you a quick update,” he began, almost shyly. “In consultation with the doctors, we’ve decided that my knee needs a course of specific treatments. This means that my 2026 season officially ends here.”

Sinner, therefore, will not defend the title he won at the ATP Finals in 2024 and 2025: “In recent years, I’ve experienced extraordinary emotions, and the moments I spent in Turin will always hold a special place in my heart,” he explained. This year will be very different, but right now I have to focus above all on my future and my long-term career. I’ll do everything I can to get back to 100 percent of my condition. I thank you all in advance for the support and affection you continue to show me. I hope to see you all back on the court soon.”

Sinner’s words immediately drew thousands of messages of support. Particularly striking was the passage in which Sinner openly acknowledges the need to prioritize the long term over the desire to return to the court quickly—a philosophy his staff had already hinted at in recent weeks.

This decision means he will miss all of the season’s remaining events, including not only the ATP Finals but also the Davis Cup, where the Italian team is set to attempt to repeat last year’s feat of winning without its number one player. In the end, therefore, a cautious approach prevailed: no race against time and no risk of setbacks.

This decision is certainly painful for the Italian champion and his fans, but it is considered necessary to ensure the best possible future. The stated goal is to return only when his knee offers all the necessary guarantees, so that he can return in 2027 in the best possible condition.
