Legend Lionel Messi bids farewell to the Argentine national team. At the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires, “La Pulga’s” final match in the Albiceleste jersey—Argentina vs. Benin—is scheduled for 1:00 a.m. (Italian time). Given the caliber of the opponent, it will be more of a grand celebration to honor the legend from Rosario, who is retiring after 208 matches with the senior national team and 125 goals.

The match will be broadcast exclusively on Sky Sport and streamed on Now. Argentina will field a front three of Lionel Messi, Lautaro Martínez, and Julián Álvarez. In midfield will be other World Cup champions and friends of Messi, such as Rodrigo De Paul, Enzo Fernández, and Alexis MacAllister. Dibu Martinez will be in goal, with captain Romero, Otamendi (who is also set to retire), Tagliafico, and Giay in defense.

There will also be a star-studded crowd in the stands: former teammates Di Maria, Angel Correa, Montiel, and Paredes are expected to attend.

Argentina vs. Benin: Probable Lineups
Argentina (4-3-3): Martinez; Giay, Otamendi, Romero, Tagliafico; De Paul, Mac Allister, Enzo Fernandez; Messi, Lautaro Martinez, Alvarez.
Benin (4-3-3): Djandjino; Azongnitode, Roche, Tijani, Ourou; Hassane, D’Almeida, Aloko; Olaitan, Ourorou, Tosino.

“Messi leaves behind something unparalleled. We have to keep playing, but the feeling of having him on the field is unique. I’ve never seen anyone else bring what he brings to a soccer field, and that’s exactly what we’ll miss. The Argentine national team will endure. It will remain at the very highest level—I have no doubt about that,” said head coach Scaloni.
