Jannik Sinner: Darren Cahill’s future is back in question—Plan B is ready

Darren Cahill’s future alongside Jannik Sinner is still up in the air. The Australian was supposed to wrap up his work with the world No. 1 at the end of this season, as announced on several occasions, but he never completely ruled out the possibility of continuing. In Rome, speaking to *La Gazzetta*, Cahill himself left the door open: “I’m not thinking about it right now; nothing is certain.”

Now that glimmer of hope could become something more concrete. After Wimbledon, Cahill stopped accompanying Jannik to tournaments, and with Sinner forced to sit out until early 2027 to recover from iliotibial band syndrome, the Australian might decide to stay by his side a little longer. At least to support him through the delicate phase of his comeback and, perhaps, all the way to Roland Garros.

Over the past two years, Paris has been a painful stop for Sinner: in 2025, he lost the final to Carlos Alcaraz after leading two sets to zero and holding three match points; in 2026, he suffered a surprise elimination. Reaching the 2027 French Open with Cahill still by his side and finally winning could be the ideal way to close out a chapter.

But there’s also an alternative on the table. The name is Magnus Norman, former world No. 2 and a Roland Garros finalist in 2000. The Swede brings with him extensive coaching experience at the highest levels. He spent eight years working alongside Stan Wawrinka, helping him win three Grand Slam titles: the 2014 Australian Open, the 2015 French Open, and the 2016 U.S. Open.
