For Jannik Sinner, the time has come to truly take a break. After months of attempts, postponements, interrupted training sessions, and delayed comebacks, the world No. 1 has decided to end his 2026 season early to devote himself entirely to recovering from his right knee injury. This decision is necessary not only to reduce the inflammation but also to silence the countless speculations about his return and the chatter from those who already consider him to be in trouble. He has only one goal: to be back in top form in time for the Australian Open.

Sinner, who announced on Tuesday that he had ended his 2026 tennis season to focus on treating his injury—which stems from the iliotibial band in his right leg—now needs to rest. It’s a bit like what happened to Lewis Hamilton in Sepang, when the Mercedes driver, with his car malfunctioning, was told to turn it off and on again—and ultimately managed to make it onto the podium. In short, for Jannik, too, “turning it off and on again” might be the best choice.

In Lyon, Jannik underwent PRP treatment—short for “platelet-rich plasma”—a procedure that uses the patient’s own blood. After a standard blood draw, the blood is centrifuged to concentrate the platelets—which are rich in growth factors—and the resulting plasma is then injected into the affected area, in some cases under ultrasound guidance.

The goal is to promote the body’s natural tissue repair processes and help reduce pain and inflammation. After his trip to France and the announcement that he was taking a break, Jannik returned home and will spend some time in the mountains with his family. His recovery begins away from the court, before his return to Monte Carlo. For about a month, Sinner will not play tennis and will focus on his rehabilitation program. It is not yet clear where he will carry out his rehabilitation. It could still be at J Medical, where Jannik stayed for over a month before attempting the trip to Asia, which was later canceled.
