Federica Brignone spoke at the FISI Media Day about her upcoming return to the slopes. Last August, the Olympic champion from Valle d’Aosta underwent surgery at the Clinica La Madonnina in Milan to have a plate and screws removed from her left knee, and she is now working toward finally getting back on her skis.

“I love skiing; I love this lifestyle; I love what I do, and I feel privileged to still be here and compete as an athlete. Last year I wasn’t able to compete for the entire season, but I skied for a month and a half—two months—so it was wonderful; I mean, watching the footage again is still really very moving,” she said, referring to the Olympics.

“I had surgery at the end of August because, for my everyday life, it was something I had to do to feel better, and right now I’m back to physical therapy every day—but I’m really recovering quickly. I’m happy, and I hope to keep it up.”

“I’ve missed the snow for a long time. I only put on my skis for two days at the end of July, but… I don’t know if I can count those as actual days of skiing. So I definitely want to get back to doing what I love, but only once I’m feeling well. So yes, snow is part of my plans; it won’t happen right away, but it’ll be my goal once I’m feeling well. In the meantime, I’m working at it, day by day, trying to improve. And I’ll say it again: I’m very happy with the progress I’m making—it’s honestly easier than last year—but it still takes time.”
