Ferrari: The Dream Job—Horner Reflects on His Self-Nomination

Former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner, in an interview with The Guardian, sought to clarify remarks he made in a recent interview, in which he had described Ferrari as a “dream job”: “My comments were taken out of context.”
“Ferrari is the most important brand in F1. It’s the team with the richest history. But I’ve accumulated considerable capital that allows me to evaluate my next moves in this sport. This would involve a ownership role, and Ferrari has no intention of selling shares.”
“So I’m happy to stay out of the racing world and see what opportunities arise in the coming months or years. It’s not a prerequisite for my return. I’d only come back for the right opportunity, with like-minded people who want to win. I would never return just to participate.”
On Frederic Vasseur’s difficulties at Maranello: “Fred Vasseur is an experienced professional. He’s done a good job. But I, more than anyone else, know the pressures involved in managing a competitive organization.”
Vasseur, for his part, had admitted in recent weeks to the weight of the situation that had arisen: “It’s difficult, but not just for me—in fact, it’s something that affects every member of the team. The lack of peace of mind doesn’t help the team, but that’s the way it is, and we have to keep working.”
