Following rumors circulating in recent hours about a possible coaching change, Catanzaro has decided to retain Giorgio Gorgone. The Calabrian club issued an official statement the day after its 3-1 home loss to Mantova, reaffirming its confidence in the coach while also calling on him and the team to bounce back quickly in their next match, scheduled for Friday, October 16, at 8:30 p.m. at Verona’s “Bentegodi” Stadium against Hellas.

“US Catanzaro 1929 announces that, following a discussion with head coach Giorgio Gorgone, the club has reaffirmed its confidence in the coach,” the statement reads. “The club acknowledges that yesterday’s performance against Mantova fell short of the situation and expectations. Hence the hope for a swift response from the team, starting with the upcoming away match against Verona, with a convincing performance in line with the club’s seasonal objectives.”

The discussion between management and the coach has therefore led to a decision to maintain continuity, at least for the time being. In recent hours, several names had emerged as possible alternatives for the Giallorossi bench (Mignani, Caserta, and Semplici, above all), but the club preferred to retain Gorgone, while demanding an immediate response on the field.

The away match against Verona now becomes a particularly important fixture for Catanzaro, which must show concrete signs of improvement and turn around a situation that remains precarious: after six matchdays, in fact, the Calabrians (who narrowly missed promotion to Serie A last year, losing only in the playoff final against Monza) are second-to-last in the standings, with just three points out of a possible eighteen.
