Jannik Sinner Follows Sofia Goggia’s Lead: The Italian’s Decision

Jannik Sinner is working to be back at 100% by early 2027. The Italian tennis player, who announced he would be sidelined until next year due to a knee injury, has decided to entrust his care to Dr. Herbert Schoenhuber, co-founder of Physioclinic.
The internationally renowned orthopedic surgeon, who served for many years as president of the FISI medical commission, played a decisive role years ago in Sofia Goggia’s recovery; after her serious injury in Cortina, she managed to compete in the Beijing Olympics, where she won silver in the downhill event.
Schoenhuber’s clinic itself announced the partnership with Sinner by posting a photo of the Italian tennis champion alongside the medical staff. “We are confident that Jannik, the world’s number one, will also make a full recovery in the coming months and will once again inspire all tennis fans starting next season,” reads the statement from Physioclinic.
Toni Nadal, Rafael Nadal’s uncle and former coach, shed light on the possible causes of the injury, analyzing the physical characteristics of Sinner’s game in *La Gazzetta dello Sport*. “Sinner is a player who stays very low on his feet; he bends his knees a lot,” explained the Spanish coach. “When you run that much, every time you come to a stop there’s a constant impact that eventually wears you down. When you play at this speed, there are always sudden movements, and that’s how injuries happen.”
Angelo Binaghi, president of the Italian Tennis and Padel Federation, publicly expressed his support for Sinner: “Protecting Jannik’s physical well-being comes before any result or competitive commitment. We await his return with open arms, with the same respect and affection as always, and with the certainty that he will return to the court when he is in the best condition to do so.”
