He’s the man of the moment in Shanghai: Zizou Bergs stunned Carlos Alcaraz, defeating him and knocking him out in two sets at the Masters 1000 currently underway in China. After his impressive victory over the prodigy from Murcia, the Belgian wanted to dedicate a message to the unfortunate Jannik Sinner.

“It’s very sad for tennis that Sinner can’t play anymore this year. Deciding not to compete is the choice of a smart young man, just like his team that’s taking care of him. He has a long career ahead of him. If he’s healthy and takes care of himself the right way, he’ll still give so much to tennis. He needs to take his time.”

“We have to be patient and wait for his return to the court.” With Sinner sidelined and the Spaniard eliminated early in Shanghai, Zverev will finish the year at No. 1 in the ATP rankings.

To speed up his recovery, Sinner has chosen to entrust his care to Dr. Herbert Schoenhuber, co-founder of Physioclinic and an internationally renowned orthopedic surgeon. This decision closely mirrors that of Sofia Goggia, who—thanks to the same doctor—managed to return in time for the Beijing Olympics, winning silver in the downhill event after a serious injury. The clinic itself posted a photo of the Italian champion with the medical staff, accompanied by an optimistic statement: “We are confident that Jannik, the world No. 1, will also make a full recovery in the coming months and will once again inspire all tennis fans starting next season.”
