Como also falls flat: Fabregas suffers a setback in the Netherlands

Another Bitter Champions League Outing for Italy: Following Tuesday’s losses by Napoli and Inter, Como also fell on Wednesday in the Netherlands in a match counting toward the second group stage of Europe’s top club competition. Cesc Fabregas’s team fell 3-2 in Rotterdam against Feyenoord: after taking the lead on a goal by Diao (who later went down with an injury), they were overtaken and defeated by goals from Zechiel, Moussa, and an own goal by Sanchez. The Larians thus remain stuck on 3 points, a total now matched by the Dutch side.
Como went from joy to disappointment in the span of just a few minutes in the first half: Diao scored the opening goal in the 18th minute off an assist from Ramon, but the home team immediately equalized in the 20th minute with a fine right-footed strike by Zechiel. And three minutes later, Diao himself was forced to leave the game due to an injury.
In the second half, Feyenoord took the lead through Moussa, who scored with a left-footed shot off an assist from Diarra. Fabregas tried to shake things up by bringing in Da Cunha, Douvikas, and Yan Couto: Como finally seemed to wake up and created a series of chances, but failed to capitalize in front of the net.
In the 82nd minute, Sanchez’s own goal sealed the match: after Moussa’s shot was deflected by Ramon, the ball bounced off the post and then off the back of the former Chelsea goalkeeper, ending up in the net. Douvikas’s late goal—scored after capitalizing on a mistake by Marmol—was in vain: Como was defeated.
