Inter Transfer Market: An Ultimatum Is Issued—A Painful Sale on the Horizon

Inter’s start to the European campaign is already in danger of becoming a problem that extends far beyond the field. After last season’s disappointing elimination—which came before they even reached the round of 16—the Nerazzurri find themselves playing catch-up in the Champions League as early as the group stage this year, thanks to back-to-back losses to Real Madrid and Club Brugge that have complicated their path in the competition after just two matchdays.

It’s not just the on-field results that are causing concern: within Inter, there is growing attention on the financial repercussions that another European failure could have in the near future. The ownership has always supported the coaching staff’s plans without making drastic changes to the roster and, in recent transfer windows, has resisted offers for its star players. However, another season without the revenue guaranteed by a deep run in the Champions League could force the club to consider scenarios previously deemed unthinkable.

The club’s stance remains clear: to keep the core of the team intact and allow Cristian Chivu to work with his best players. But remaining in the competition through the spring is considered essential to ensuring the continuity of the economic model established by the ownership. For this reason, there is a growing awareness among those at Viale della Liberazione that a turning point must come quickly.

Among the names that inevitably attract the attention of the transfer market is that of Lautaro Martinez. The Nerazzurri captain remains the team’s technical and charismatic symbol, but there was no shortage of inquiries from Barcelona this summer. The Argentine is considered central to the project, yet faced with an off-market offer and a complicated financial situation, certainties could waver.

However, he wouldn’t be the only star potentially involved. Alessandro Bastoni also continues to be highly regarded by Blaugrana executives, who have been closely monitoring the Italian defender for some time. The same goes for Nicolò Barella, whose profile is particularly appealing in the Premier League and who would be one of the most sought-after players on the international market.

For now, any speculation about a transfer remains in the background: Inter’s intention is to retain its star players and reignite its European ambitions as early as the coming weeks. The message coming from the top, however, seems unequivocal: a decisive change of pace is needed in the Champions League. Otherwise, next summer could bring painful decisions and a major sacrifice destined to change the face of the team.
