The Italian journalism world is in mourning. Christiana Ruggeri, a journalist and editor-in-chief of the science desk at Tg2, where she had worked since 2000, has died at the age of 57. Born in Rome and a graduate of La Sapienza University with a degree in Modern Literature, she covered current events, international news, and popular science throughout her career, becoming one of the familiar faces of Rai’s news program.

After gaining her first professional experience in the 1990s at various radio and television stations in Rome, Ruggeri joined Tg2 in 2000. In 2005, she made her debut as a host with the segment “Tg2 Mistrà,” and subsequently spent four seasons covering “Tg2 Costume e Società” and the weekend editions of the newscast.

For many years, she worked in the Foreign Affairs department, producing numerous reports. In May 2025, she became editor-in-chief of Tg2’s Science desk, continuing her professional journey in both news reporting and in-depth analysis.

A journalist, writer, and essayist, she published a biography of Ferdinand Porsche last February. Among her great passions was photography, along with a strong commitment to social causes. For twenty years, she founded and chaired the nonprofit organization Il Rifugio delle Code Felici, dedicated to combating the stray animal problem. She also served as vice president of GreenAccord, an association of environmental journalists.

Unirai Figec also paid tribute to her, expressing solidarity with the Tg2 newsroom and the journalist’s family, particularly her daughter. “We share in the grief of the Tg2 newsroom and, with deep emotion, express our solidarity and condolences to the family of our fellow journalist Christiana Ruggeri, and in particular to her beloved daughter,” the statement reads.
