Serse Cosmi in the Eye of the Storm: His Clash with Reporters Goes Viral

These are tense times at Salernitana. Saturday’s disappointing 2-2 draw, which came down to the wire against Scafatese, not only had repercussions for the team’s standing in the standings but also sparked a full-blown media storm. At the center of the storm is head coach Serse Cosmi, who was at the center of a highly tense post-match scene marked by furious arguments with the local press.
The atmosphere of intense tension was palpable from the very first minutes after the final whistle. A telling incident involved TeleColore’s director, Franco Esposito: the interview with Cosmi lasted barely a few seconds, cut short by the coach’s irritation—he didn’t like the way the initial question was framed, even before any analysis of the team’s performance could begin.
But it was at the end of the official press conference that the situation finally escalated. The Salernitana Clubs Coordination Center, in an official statement, referred to “unacceptable remarks” made by the coach toward Enrico Scapaticci, a journalist and provincial USSI representative, as well as a member of the Coordination Center itself.
“In light of such behavior, Cosmi has hit rock bottom in our eyes,” the statement reads. “And we’ll say it clearly: he can leave even tonight. We demand an immediate explanation, a public apology for what has been reported, and a clear stance from the club. We support Salernitana, but we will not accept the trampling of people’s dignity.”
Twenty-four hours after the final whistle, the club has not issued any statements on the matter: on the official website, the latest news item pertains specifically to Saturday’s post-match comments, with Cosmi’s remarks referring solely to the match played at the Arechi Stadium and his management of the players at his disposal.
