Tragedy in Sardinia: Mario Manconi, a 22-year-old basketball player, has died

A terrible tragedy has struck Sardinia in the past few hours: Mario Manconi has passed away at just 22 years old. The young man experienced a severe headache and was taken to the hospital in Sassari, where doctors discovered he had a tumor. Mario Manconi passed away a few hours later, leaving an unfillable void in the Gallura community and beyond.

“There are no words to describe the profound grief that the entire New Basket Tempio family is feeling over Mario’s untimely passing. Your energy and your smile will remain etched in our hearts forever. Our thoughts are with Mario’s family and the countless people who loved him. Goodbye, Marione; may your journey be peaceful, and may the earth lie lightly upon you,” wrote ASD New Basket Tempio, the club to which the young man belonged.

Mario Manconi was also remembered by the Su Nugoresu Choir of Nuoro: “We were fortunate to have known you and to have appreciated the wonderful young man you were. A kind soul who has left us far too soon! We share in the grief of Tomaso, his family, and the entire Tempio community. The Su Nugoresu Choir will always be your friend. Bon voyage, Marié.”

The young man was among the volunteers of the group “Quelli del Karnevale,” responsible for organizing the historic Tempio Carnival. He was also a member of the folk group Città di Tempio and the off-road association Maestrali Explorer.
