Another tragedy has struck the Kennedy family. Kyle Kennedy Kerr, the granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy, died at the age of 42 at her home in Westwood, Massachusetts. She passed away on September 21, though the cause of death has not been disclosed. The funeral was held privately.

In recent years, she had faced serious health issues resulting from a spinal cord injury that left her permanently paralyzed. Despite these challenges, she had tried to maintain a positive outlook, devoting herself to her family and advocating for the rights of people with disabilities.

Kyle’s life had already been marked by family tragedies. Her father, Michael Kennedy, son of Robert and Ethel, died in 1997 in a skiing accident after crashing into a tree. Kyle had also had to cope with the loss of her daughter Josie, Conor’s twin, who died a few days after birth. She is survived by her sons Conor and Declan, her mother Victoria, her brother Michael, and her ex-husband Liam.

Kyle, one of the 34 grandchildren of Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Kennedy, had chosen to devote much of her life to the education and support of children. After earning a master’s degree in education from Harvard University, he joined the Teach for America program, teaching for two years in New York City public schools.

Alongside his professional commitments, he cultivated a great passion for running. In 2019, she completed the Boston Marathon, managing to beat her father’s previous time by twenty minutes. Subsequently, a severe spinal cord injury radically changed her daily life, leaving her with a permanent disability and further health complications.

Her personal experience had driven her to become even more committed to advocating for people with disabilities. Kyle had even testified before the Massachusetts Legislature during a hearing on discrimination in access to healthcare. She continued this work despite her physical challenges, turning her own experience into an opportunity to raise public awareness.
