The rugby world is mourning the sudden passing of Jack Davies, a player for RGC 1404 in Colwyn Bay and a star of Super Rugby Cymru, the top-tier league organized by the Welsh Rugby Union. Davies was only 24 years old: the news of his passing has deeply shaken the entire rugby community, even beyond the borders of Wales and the United Kingdom.

RGC 1404 and the Welsh Rugby Union have issued messages of condolence to honor a young man who was highly regarded both on and off the field. “The Welsh Rugby Union is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of RGC player Jack Davies,” reads the official statement. “Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to Jack’s family, friends, teammates, and everyone at the RGC during this incredibly difficult time.”

Davies began his rugby career at age 12 with Clwb Rygbi Caernarfon, immediately distinguishing himself in the scrum and, in the years that followed, specializing as a second-row forward. Davies had progressed through the entire youth system before joining the RGC’s sports program.

He later transferred to Cardiff Metropolitan University, where he studied Physical Education and Sport for three years. After finishing college, he returned to Caernarfon and, in 2023, rejoined the RGC senior team, continuing his rugby career.

The club’s tribute was particularly moving, highlighting the player’s strong ties to the local sports community: “He was a vital part of the RGC and CR Caernarfon family, and his death is a devastating loss for everyone connected to both clubs. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to his family, friends, teammates, and everyone who knew him during this difficult time.”
