Carlo Alvino staunchly defends Aurelio De Laurentiis

Carlo Alvino, in his editorial “Tell Alvino,” airing at 12 p.m. on Teleclub Channel 77, commented on the recent statements made by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis on Radio Kiss Kiss, focusing on the relationship between the Napoli owner and the club and his ability to balance athletic goals with business interests.
“I want to keep having fun with Napoli.” This is the statement made by De Laurentiis that inspired the journalist to reflect on the club’s journey.
“It’s a decisive and genuine statement, and it’s impossible not to understand him. Today’s Napoli is, for all intents and purposes—whether you like it or not—his creation. It is his great passion. Those who know him are aware of this, while his detractors, on the other hand, put forward a different argument.”
Alvino then highlighted how much the president’s personal involvement has shaped the development of the Azzurri project—going far beyond the mere management of a soccer club—and how, over the years, he has built a model in which the club’s economic growth goes hand in hand with its determination to establish itself at the highest levels of soccer.
“In De Laurentiis’s vision for Napoli, his entrepreneurial desire to grow the organization—to make it stronger, wealthier, and more profitable—converges with—and this is no blasphemy—the desire to remain constantly in the spotlight and the personal ambition to excel.”
A vision that, in his analysis, has been reflected in Napoli’s journey since De Laurentiis took the helm. He has managed to hold together the two aspects of his project—the business side and the athletic side—without giving up on the desire to win.
“When the team wins, De Laurentiis is the first to be happy. It’s a goal he’s achieved; he’s managed to combine these two paths.”
For Alvino, therefore, the president’s desire to continue enjoying himself with Napoli represents the natural continuation of a journey that began many years ago and has been marked by the club’s growth, both financially and in terms of on-field results.
