Allegri was furious over Napoli’s 3-3 draw against Roma, but didn’t shy away from his trademark sarcasm. The Napoli coach took the draw against Roma hard, protesting to the referees to the point of getting sent off. In his post-game interview with DAZN, however, he alternated between irony and bitterness over the two points lost after holding a two-goal lead. “Conceded too many goals? I’ve changed our style of play—now I want everyone to play on the attack,” Allegri began with a joke. “Tonight the team played a good game against a strong Roma side. We couldn’t have done more on the third goal, but by playing with this spirit, we’ll climb back up the standings.”
When asked whether the glass was half full or half empty, the coach responded with another ironic jab: “Tonight, for the first time in 25 years, I’m not in the right frame of mind to comment on the game.” Behind the sarcasm, however, lies all the disappointment over the result: “I’m very angry that we didn’t win the game.”
The coach then recounted the incident that cost him a red card after Roma’s goal that tied the game at 3-3: “I was sent off because I was keeping quiet. The fourth official called the referee over and had me sent off. I hadn’t done absolutely anything: it’s a shame, but next time I’ll stay on the bench,” Allegri said. He then added fuel to the fire: “Every time I move, I get sent off. I see others coming onto the field and turning the game around. I thank Saccani, and as for the rest, nothing but praise for the guys.”
