Serie A: Douvikas Leads Como to Victory; Sassuolo Defeated

Como is on a roll in the league as well: following their spectacular Champions League victory over Manchester United, Cesc Fabregas’s team followed up with another win, defeating Sassuolo at home in their Serie A Matchday 8 fixture. The win allows Como to temporarily climb to third place in the standings with 17 points.
The star of the day was Douvikas, who scored a brace. After a hard-fought but scoreless first half, the Greek forward broke the deadlock early in the second half off an assist from Kaiki Bruno, and doubled the lead in the 60th minute, again set up by the Brazilian. The Neroverdi were unable to respond and suffered their third loss in their last four matches, leaving them stuck in 13th place with 8 points.
In the other 3:00 p.m. match, Bologna defeated Cagliari 2-0 on the road. It was the second consecutive loss for Pisacane’s Sardinian side, who fell in front of their home crowd and slipped to eighth place with 13 points. Palladino’s team, meanwhile, climbs back up to thirteenth place, joining Sassuolo on 8 points.
Bologna took the lead in the 58th minute through Casale, who headed in following a free kick. The goal that sealed the match came in the 80th minute, on a penalty kick awarded after Rodriguez handled the ball on Bernardeschi’s shot. The former Juventus player took the kick himself and beat Caprile, securing the result.
