Atalanta in a thrilling 4-4 draw with Frosinone. Genoa defeats Venezia

Matchday 8 of Serie A delivered goals and thrills. The match between Atalanta and Frosinone ended in a 4-4 draw, a game full of twists and turns, while Genoa secured three precious points in the fight for survival, beating Venezia 1-0 at Marassi thanks to a splendid goal by Ellertsson.
A spectacular match unfolded in Bergamo, featuring braces from Krstovic and Schmid, along with goals from Ederson and Elmas for the Nerazzurri and goals from Calò and Terzic for the Ciociari. The start came as a shock to the home team: after just twenty seconds, Ederson miscontrolled the ball in front of his own box, giving Schmid the chance to open the scoring. The forward didn’t hesitate and scored his first goal in the yellow-and-blue jersey.
Atalanta responded and equalized in the 14th minute through Krstovic, who capitalized on an assist from De Ketelaere. Frosinone’s response, however, was immediate. Three minutes later, Ghedjemis broke down the right and found Schmid again, who completed his brace and put the visitors back in front. The Nerazzurri were forced to play catch-up but refused to give up. In the 29th minute, Cittadini handled the ball in the box following a free kick. After a VAR review, the referee awarded a penalty kick, and in the 33rd minute, Ederson made up for his earlier mistake by converting the penalty to make it 2-2. The home team’s comeback was complete in the 45th minute: Zappacosta crossed from the right and found Krstovic, who powered home the 3-2 goal—his second of the day.
The match, however, was far from over. In the 48th minute, Calò scored a magnificent goal to make it 3-3, capitalizing on Ghedjemis’s second assist. Just two minutes later, Atalanta regained the lead: De Ketelaere started the play with a nice burst of speed, Krstovic set it up, and Elmas scored to make it 4-3. The pace slowed as the minutes ticked by, but Frosinone kept believing. In the 82nd minute, Ghedjemis delivered his third assist of the match, setting up Terzic, whose deflected shot tied the game at 4-4. In stoppage time, Frosinone even came close to pulling off a stunning upset: in the 94th minute, Ghedjemis had a chance to make it 5-4, but Carnesecchi made a decisive save to rescue Atalanta from defeat. The draw brings Frosinone to 14 points, while Atalanta moves up to 10.
Genoa, on the other hand, has reason to smile, beating Venezia 1-0 at Marassi in a crucial head-to-head match with relegation implications. The match was decided by a spectacular goal from Ellertsson, allowing the Rossoblù to secure three crucial points and giving Daniele De Rossi greater peace of mind heading into the upcoming midweek match.
After a tentative opening phase, it was Venezia who created the first real scoring chance. In the 24th minute, Yeboah—fresh off a contract extension through 2030—took a shot from the center of the box, but Bijlow was quick to make the save. Just seconds later, Genoa struck: Ellertsson unleashed a powerful left-footed shot that nestled perfectly into the top corner, leaving the opposing goalkeeper with no chance. It was a spectacular goal, which also carried the added significance of being a goal against his former team for the Icelandic midfielder.
The home team nearly doubled their lead in the 41st minute through Messias, while Venezia tried to respond early in the second half. Hainaut wasted a good chance to equalize with a header, then Kike Perez tested Bijlow again with a long-range shot. Adams also tried to find the net with a close-range diagonal shot, but the Rossoblù goalkeeper held firm until the final whistle. Genoa thus secured a crucial victory and moved up to 7 points, while Venezia remained stuck at 3 points, in last place in the standings. For Davide Nicola’s team, this marks their first loss since he took over, while the Rossoblù regained confidence ahead of their upcoming league matches.
