Catanzaro: Gorgone’s Replacement Announced

Catanzaro has announced its new head coach following Giorgio Gorgone’s dismissal on Saturday: In a statement, the Calabrian club announced that it has appointed Michele Mignani—former head coach of Bari, Palermo, Cesena, and Modena—to lead the team.
“US Catanzaro 1929 announces that it has appointed Coach Michele Mignani as head coach of the first team. Mignani has signed a contract that will keep him with the Giallorossi through June 30, 2028.”
“His coaching staff will currently consist of assistant coach Simone Vergassola and technical staff members Emanuele Insalata and Davide Campofranco. The club welcomes Coach Mignani and his staff, wishing them the best of luck at the helm of the Eagles.”
Gorgone’s dismissal came after a heavy home loss to Ascoli, which compounded an extremely difficult start to the season. Catanzaro had lost five of its first six league matches and, following the home defeat to Mantova, had slipped into the relegation zone. In recent days, the team had remained in last place with 4 points, tied with Sampdoria.
Mignani’s appointment had already been rumored in recent weeks. Sporting director Polito, who had worked with the coach at Bari and come close to promotion to Serie A, had approached him first before the match in Verona, but received a negative response.
