Matilde Lorenzi: A Heartfelt Tribute Two Years After Her Tragic Death

Two years after the tragic passing of Matilde Lorenzi on October 29, 2024, the Italian Winter Sports Federation, its coaches, its female athletes, and all the athletes on the national teams wish to extend a heartfelt and affectionate embrace to her family. This is stated in a note from the federation itself.

“Matilde continues to live on in the thoughts of our entire community,” the note reads. “She is remembered for the dedication with which she approached every training session, for the respect she showed toward the sport, and for the pure radiance with which she lived out her passion in the mountains. There is no snow on which our teams ski without her memory being present: a cherished presence that will always accompany the history of Italian skiing.”.

“FISI extends its most sincere and respectful condolences to the Lorenzi family, along with gratitude for the extraordinary dignity and strength with which they continue to honor her memory. Among their initiatives is the establishment of the Matilde Lorenzi Foundation, a commitment launched in her name to promote a culture of safety on the slopes and protect young athletes. The Federation renews its commitment to never forget Matilde, preserving over time the values she represented and the indestructible affection for those who loved her,” the statement concludes.
