Perugia: A Walk in the Park at Monza and a Lead at the Top of the Super League Standings

Vero Volley

A bitter night for Vero Volley Monza, which lost in three sets to Sir Susa Scai Perugia in front of its home crowd. In the early match of the third round of the SuperLega Credem Banca, the Italian champions prevailed with a score of 0-3 (16-25, 17-25, 22-25), confirming their superiority and leaving the Brianza-based team still with zero points.

At the Opiquad Arena, the match immediately turned into an uphill battle for the home team. Perugia took control right from the start, putting Monza’s reception under pressure and maintaining consistency in all fundamental aspects of the game. The first set went smoothly for the Umbrian team, which closed it out 16-25.

The script didn’t change in the second set. Angelo Lorenzetti’s team continued to control the game with authority, while Monza struggled to find effective solutions on offense. The visitors also capitalized on excellent reception—with a 91% success rate—and took a 2-0 lead with a 17-25 win.

Vero Volley tried to fight back in the third set, finally showing greater determination. The Brianza-based team started strong and immediately took a 3-0 lead, then managed to hold their own against the Italian champions. Beretta and his teammates even closed the gap to 20-19, but at the decisive moment, Perugia shifted gears and pulled away for a 22-25 victory.

The top scorer of the evening was Ferre Reggers, who tallied 14 points and was named MVP of the match. Close behind him, Semeniuk stood out with 13 points. For Vero Volley, the 11 points each from Velichkov and Frascio weren’t enough, though Khotsevitch helped spark a comeback in the final set.
