An NBA-caliber night for Aaron Holiday: what a performance in Trento

Aaron Holiday was the standout performer in Maxima Roma’s victory on the road against Aquila Trento. The former NBA player, who has made over 300 appearances in the world’s most prestigious league, delivered a truly standout performance, recording 28 points, 3 rebounds, and 6 assists. These numbers earned him the MVP title in a game that remained close for three quarters before the Roman team pulled away decisively. The visitors dominated the final ten minutes with a 38-19 run, turning a hard-fought contest into a lopsided victory, sealed by the final score of 88-62.

Yet, for most of the game, nothing suggested such a decisive outcome. The two teams went head-to-head, but struggled to find offensive consistency. The score remained low, and the game unfolded through a long series of lead changes, with neither team able to build a comfortable lead. Trento stayed in the game, while Rome looked for the right moment to change the pace. The turning point came in the final quarter, when a three-pointer by Alibegovic ignited the visitors’ offense and kicked off the run that would ultimately decide the game.

L’Aquila is unable to find effective countermeasures and watches the gap gradually widen. Complicating matters further are shooting struggles, especially from long range: the 8 baskets made on 38 attempts from beyond the arc speak to a particularly difficult night for the Bianconeri’s offense. Rome, on the other hand, capitalized on the momentum, ramped up the intensity, and closed out the game without giving their opponents any chance of a comeback.

For Trento, Bigelow was the leading scorer with 15 points, to which he added 5 rebounds, while Selom Mawugbe finished with 8 points and 7 rebounds. However, their contributions weren’t enough to avoid a heavy defeat, which came mainly in the final quarter. On the other side, Holiday proved his worth, drawing on the experience he gained on American courts. The point guard didn’t just score; he dictated the pace of the offense and involved his teammates, becoming the key architect of Rome’s victory.
