Antonio Ventrone, a police sergeant and goalkeeper, has died at the age of just 28

Antonio Ventrone, a marshal with the Guardia di Finanza, died at the age of just 28 after battling an illness that, in a short time, took him away from his loved ones. His passing has deeply affected the community of Pomigliano d’Arco, where he was born, and that of L’Aquila, the city where he served.
A native of Pomigliano d’Arco, Ventrone had built his career in the Guardia di Finanza, distinguishing himself through his dedication, commitment, and professionalism. His family also had strong ties to the military: his father, Nello, is a First Lieutenant in the Italian Air Force’s 72nd Wing, where he has been a pillar of the unit for over thirty years.
Alongside his military career, he nurtured a passion for soccer. During the 2024–2025 season, he played goalkeeper for Valle Pretara Calcio, leaving a legacy that extends far beyond the field. The L’Aquila-based club bid him farewell with a message of deep affection, remembering him as a young man who stood out “for his class both on and off the field,” and expressing sympathy to his family and colleagues in the Guardia di Finanza.
The Italian Finance Police Union (USIF) also expressed its condolences, describing Ventrone as “a young servant of the state” and emphasizing how his passing leaves a profound void among colleagues, friends, and family. The funeral took place today, November 3, at the Church of Maria Santissima del Suffragio in Pomigliano d’Arco, where family members, friends, colleagues, and acquaintances gathered to pay their final respects.
