Lorenzo Musetti pulled off a sensational upset against Alexander Zverev: the Italian defeated the new world No. 1 in two sets (7-6, 6-2) and will face France’s Luca Van Assche in the round of 16 at the Paris Masters 1000.

The match opened with an intense battle: Musetti had to work hard, but he showed character and talent in the most critical moments. Zverev sought to impose his own rhythm from the very start, relying heavily on his serve and power from the baseline.

The Italian’s response came with a far greater variety of shots: tight, low trajectories, variations in spin, and masterful shots even under pressure. The tiebreak was emblematic: trailing 2-5, he staged a textbook comeback with five consecutive points, winning the first set that lasted over an hour.

From that moment on, the match became a one-man show by the Tuscan champion. In the second set, Musetti shifted into high gear, immediately breaking serve and racing to a 3-1 lead. The German appeared completely disoriented and unable to respond: every time he tried to step up the pace, it only served as an assist for the Italian’s shots.
