Naples: Massimiliano Allegri Set to Be Fired—His Replacement Is Already in Place

Massimiliano Allegri’s future as Napoli’s head coach is once again in question following the crushing 4-1 defeat against Porto in the Champions League. It was yet another disappointing performance by the Azzurri, which has reignited speculation about a possible coaching change. Among the names linked to the Napoli coaching position is Stefano Pioli, who is currently a free agent following his most recent professional stints.
At the moment, there are no negotiations between Napoli and the former Milan and Fiorentina coach. In fact, Aurelio De Laurentiis has reportedly not contacted either Pioli or any other coaches to evaluate a potential replacement for Allegri. The Emilian coach, however, is said to be fully available. Pioli would immediately accept a call from the Azzurri club. This possibility is also linked to his existing relationship with De Laurentiis: there have reportedly been some contacts between the two in the past, and the president had already considered him as a candidate.
Allegri’s position is not yet in jeopardy, at least as far as club management decisions are concerned. De Laurentiis continues to place his trust in him, but the coach is under pressure to quickly find a solution to the crisis. The concern stems not only from the results but also from tensions that have emerged within the locker room, with certain incidents fueling doubts about the team’s unity.
The upcoming match against Lazio, scheduled for Sunday, November 8, therefore represents a particularly delicate test. Napoli needs an immediate response to regain composure and turn things around before the international break. Allegri remains in his position for now, but his margin for error has inevitably narrowed. And if the situation were to worsen further, Pioli could become one of the first names to be considered for the future of the Azzurri’s coaching staff.
