The difficult start to the World Championship of Marc Marquez and Ducati are at the center of the debate in the MotoGP paddock after the first three races of the championship, dominated by the Aprilia and Marco Bezzecchi. The Catalan rider on one of his favorite tracks, that of Austin in Texas, was unable to go beyond fifth place: a clear sign that something is not working, notwithstanding the problems with the bike and the physical problems that have plagued him since the injury that forced him to miss the last Grands Prix last year.

Former motorcycle champion and now DAZN commentator Carlos Checa analyzed the nine-time world champion’s situation this way, “I think the problem is the physical condition, because I’ve never seen Marc here at COTA so struggling. Something is happening to him. We will see, but he is even behind some of his teammates on the Ducati. So it’s clear that Marc needs to get his confidence back, he needs to work on the limits that he probably has at the moment, and we’ll see if that’s possible in the short term.”

“The races keep coming and the gap to his rivals is continuing to increase. But I really appreciate the effort he put in in Austin, I think this is the right way to come back, and I think he knows very well what’s going on and he’s going to have to work hard, and hopefully he can recover and get back to his level.”

Carlos Checa also talked about Pecco Bagnaia, pointing out how far he is from his best version, “Obviously, if we talk about the Pecco Bagnaia that used to lead the World Championship, well, yes, he is far from the Pecco of yesteryear, and now, right now, there is a big difference. This inconstancy, this lack of continuity, is a problem that has been coming since last year and continues today.”
