Myriam Sylla, big hit in Turin: Chieri knocked out in Cev Cup first leg final

The first chapter of the CEV Cup double final smiles on Galatasaray Daikin Istanbul, which conquers the Pala Gianni Asti imposing itself at the tie-break. In a packed hall full of enthusiasm, Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri ’76 surrendered after more than two hours of play, at the end of a discontinuous challenge. The Turks made the first and third sets their own (18-25), while the white and blue girls reacted with character, finding effectiveness at the service and bringing home the second (25-20) and the fourth set (25-18).
The tie-break was a succession of emotions: Chieri gets to dispose of four match balls without being able to concretize them, before yielding 18-20 to a more polished and ruthless Galatasaray in the decisive moments.
Undisputed MVP Carutasu, protagonist with 31 points and true dragger of the team. Among the Piedmontese ranks, Nemeth’s 23 points and Nervini’s 18 were not enough. Myriam Sylla was also good among the guests, with 16 points.
“It’s a pity for the result but it’s okay, we are in game one of a very important final and they are a very strong team – commented Stella Nervini – We played it until the end with Galatasaray that came here really fierce and in the wall-defense and in the serve put us in great difficulty. We were not beautiful but we were good in one way or another to stay there. In the end it came down to details and they were better and more cynical when it came to putting the ball down.”
