Aksel Lund Svindal will no longer be the coach of Lindsey Vonn. What already seemed clear after the scary injury in Cortina that ended the U.S. skier’s career has been made official by the Norwegian, interviewed by the VG masthead: “It’s probably over. Unfortunately, Lindsey will need physiotherapists and doctors more than she will need a coach. From a morale point of view, I think she is fine now. It’s natural to be down in the dumps when you get out of the hospital, then slowly everything settles down and you start again. I speak from personal experience, I’ve been there more than once. I think she went through difficult days, sending me very short and terse messages. But now it seems to me that he is back to inner normalcy.”

Svindal also spoke about his professional future, hinting that there are no final decisions yet: “Honestly, I don’t know what I will do yet. I have talked to the Norwegian federation regarding a role on the speed coaching staff, but traveling a lot is not compatible with family commitments, and right now I don’t really want to be out in the world. I have a three-year-old son and the decision to accept Lindsey’s coaching role was made together with my wife Amalie. We will do that again this spring, we will all decide together.”

Federica Brignone on the sidelines of a Banca Generali event recounted the last few months that have changed her life. After last season’s triumphant season ended with a dramatic fall, the skier from Valle d’Aosta seemed to have reached the end of her glorious career, but instead she did not give up and recovered from her injury, earning two crazy gold medals at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina: a triumph that consecrated her permanently among the legends of Italian skiing.

“What surprised me the most was my reaction after the injury: by nature I need extreme preparation and extreme work to feel ready to compete, and instead I accepted what happened and managed to react proactively, in a way that was totally unexpected for me,” confessed the Azzurra champion.
