Domenico Pozzovivo surprises everyone and returns to the peloton at age 43

The world of cycling re-embraces Domenico Pozzovivo: a year and a half after his last race, the 1982-class rider has in fact decided to get back in the game, returning to the peloton in the uniform of Team Solution Tech-Nippo-Rali, the outfit led by general manager Serge Parsani. The announcement came as a surprise on Friday, April 3: Pozzovivo had last raced on October 12, 2024, finishing 38th in the Giro di Lombardia, but he could not resist the call of the road bike.
“After a period away from racing, the rider from Lucania is ready to get back into the game at the highest level with the formation led by Serge Parsani,” reads the official channels of Team Solution Tech-Nippo-Rali. “The operation, strongly desired by Mirko Ferro, CEO of Solution Tech, represents a new starting point for Pozzovivo, with the goal of returning to the protagonist already from the Tour of the Alps. The former Giro del Trentino will start next April 20 and will also see Giulio Pellizzari, Lorenzo Finn, Jakob Omrzel and Darren Rafferty, among others, at the start.
“It’s a choice born from objective analysis of my condition,” explained Pozzovivo, regarding his choice to return to professional cycling despite his age and more than a year of stop. “I am grateful to the team and will try to reciprocate with experience and competitiveness. Serge Parsani is also looking forward to the partnership: “We are excited about Pozzovivo’s arrival. From the first confrontations we sensed lucidity and an interesting condition. He will be able to be an important added value.”
Born in 2022 as Team Corratec, Team Solution Tech-Nippo-Rali boasts the likes of Dusan Rajovic (winner of a stage at the Giro di Sardegna, the Umag Classic, and two fractions at the Tour of Taiwan) and Matteo Fabbro (a stage win at the Tour of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates) on its roster. Despite Pozzovivo’s extensive experience on the bike and in Parsani’s flagship team, the two had not yet collaborated before today.
