Roma swept away at the Meazza: the Nerazzurri scrambled the Giallorossi with a 5-2 win that admits of no reply. Inter started strongly, immediately unlocking the game with Lautaro Martinez, who had recently returned from injury. Roma took the blow at the start, suffering, but as the minutes went by it took the field and found the equalizer through Gianluca Mancini, another of the Zenica veterans, who was good at hitting a header off Rensch’s cross.

In the final half, the Nerazzurri put their heads back ahead thanks to a spectacular goal by Hakan Calhanoglu, who left Mile Svilar no chance with a powerful right-footer from distance. Gasperini, of course, did not take it well because it would have been very valuable to go to the rest on a draw.

In the second half, Inter ran rampant: again Lautaro signed the 3-1 after a restart orchestrated by Marcus Thuram, who won the physical duel and sent him in one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Shortly afterwards it was the same Thuram who got on the scoreboard, converting a header from a corner kick taken by Calhanoglu.

The fury of the Beneamata did not subside: Barella broke through forcefully, the ball caromed off Mario Hermoso and back to the Sardinian midfielder, who with a conclusion under the crossbar said it was 5-1. It doesn’t end like that, however, because the proud Capitolinians go to the net again in the 25th minute: a rebound causes the ball to carom onto Pellegrini’s left-footed shot, which finds the corner and makes the loss less bitter. Then Dumfries wastes and Svilar overcomes on Pio Esposito. 5-2 at Sozza’s triple whistle.
