Sofia Goggia at FISI’s microphones returned to take stock of the season, setting her goals for next year: “I’m happy to have won the fifth specialty World Cup, the first in SuperG where I expressed myself with continuity this year. It was the fruit of technical work that started four years ago and I am very happy to have achieved it, to be complete sprinters you need to have both.”

The Azzurra did not want to hide behind a finger, however: she expected something more. “It was a season maybe below expectations, in training I was strong in three disciplines. There were ups and downs, but the claim was ‘despite the difficulties.’ I brought home a beautiful cup and managed to win in a different way.”

At the Olympics came the bronze: “I expected a different medal than bronze but it is never a given to bring home an Olympic podium-I won it on a day where things did not go in my favor after the long wait for Vonn’s fall. I have competed in three Olympics and always medaled.”

Now the goal is the 2027 World Championships: the Bergamasque is in the hunt for her first rainbow gold. But at the same time the Azzurra has decided to take it easy, compared to the hard pre-Olympic training of the past year: “You always have to face the situation for what it is by giving your best to come out of it in the best way. Now the preparation will start a little later, after an Olympic year with so much energy spent, and having raced so much in the past years, I took some time for myself.”
