Gigi Dall'Igna tells his story: memories with Lorenzo, Dovizioso and the Acosta choice

During a meeting organized at Eataly Milano Smeraldo, Gigi Dall’Igna reviewed some of the most significant moments of his career in Ducati, dwelling especially on the relationships built over time with the riders who have marked the recent era of MotoGP. “There are people with whom I maintain a very good relationship and with others less so -Gigi began at the microphones of Moto.it-we are the only ones who have not resorted to outside influences and I have never copied anyone.”

He started by talking about Andrea Dovizioso: “We have done wonderful things with him and I keep so many memories.” However, Gigi says that with ‘Dovi’ now there are not very good relations: “With time our relationship has deteriorated a bit, but for both of us it is better to remember the good times.”

Special words were also dedicated to Jorge Lorenzo: “I have had the pleasure of knowing him since childhood and he is an incredible rider,” said Dall’Igna, also stating that he has a special relationship with him. Then, the Ducati Corse CEO recalled the famous tank that turned Jorge’s world championship around in 2018: “The famous tank? It worked along with many other things.”

During the event, the Ducati executive also talked about Pecco Bagnaia and recalled the first title he won with the latter: “My best memory with Pecco was the 2022 title.” Gigi, however, hinted that the choice to replace Pecco in 2027 was anything but easy: “A technical director has to make professional decisions that humanly he would not make.”

Words of high esteem also came for Marc Marquez: “As soon as he arrived, I realized that he had exceptional skills and could do things unattainable for anyone else. With the Spaniard, the relationship is very genuine: “I discovered a fantastic person and he is someone from whom you can learn so much.”

Finally, he also dedicated a few words to Pedro Acosta, who will take Pecco’s place next year in the factory team: “Champions you recognize from childhood and Pedro is one of those who has excited so many people already in Moto3.”
