The Mardan Sports Complex in Antalya is set to host the friendly match between Iran and Gambia, a useful test for both selections to inaugurate their path to their respective international goals. For the Persian national team, firmly in 21st place in the FIFA rankings after dominating its qualifying round, this is the first real test to sharpen tactical mechanisms ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which the Melli team is intent on playing despite doubts related to the conflict with the United States.

On the other hand, Gambia, left out of the race for the rainbow event, will use this appointment as a stimulating test-bed to test new solutions and evaluate the second lines, already laying the groundwork for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers that will kick off in September.

Iran will field a four-man defense. In front of Hosseini, the defense will be led by Khalilzadeh and Nemati, with Esmaeilifar and Mohammadi at full-back. In the median, Ghoddos and Razzaghinia will act as a dam, while the trio composed of Gholizadeh, Mohebi and former Inter player Taremi will act in the three-quarter in support of the only forward Hosseinzadeh.

The Gambia will respond instead with a team that is solid and dynamic on paper. Between the posts there will be room for Gaye, protected by centerbacks Colley and Sinyan with Sanyang and Saine on the flanks. The midfield of three will be entrusted to Barry, Drammeh and Ceesay, while the offensive trident will see Bojang as the main terminal, assisted by the outfielders Minteh and Manneh.
