Rafa Jodar is shining at Roland Garros. The young Spanish star’s victory in the round of 16, against Pablo Carreno Busta, of the most important clay court tournament has allowed the 19-year-old from Madrid to reach the round of 16 of a Grand Slam for the first time.

An achievement achieved only on his second participation in a Slam event. An impressive precocity, better than so many of the world’s tennis legends such as Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic. But not only that. He did better than even the Sinner-Alcaraz duo.

Only Boris Becker, (Australian Open 1984), John McEnroe (Wimbledon 1977) and Bjorn Borg (Wimbledon 1973) reached the quarterfinals of a Slam on their second attempt. Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz succeeded in the fourth Slama they have participated in. Blue, specifically, at Roland Garros in 2020.

I take one match at a time, and just because other players who have done so well and won so many Grand Slams have not achieved what I have achieved, it doesn’t mean that I will now be like them,” his words on the matter released to AS.
