Mirza Alibegovic has made his decision, but there is still one issue to resolve

After the uncertainty of recent weeks, the situation regarding Mirza Alibegovic’s future is now being finalized. The 34-year-old basketball player, Teo’s eldest son, is in fact very close to signing with Maxima Roma, the club founded by Paul Matiasic following the acquisition and relocation of the sports franchise formerly known as Pallacanestro Brescia.

According to a report in *Il Messaggero Veneto*, APU Udine (the club for which Alibegovic played for three seasons, eventually becoming its captain) tried to convince the player, but his desire to test himself in a new environment—one engaged in international competition—apparently prevailed; Maxima Roma’s offer also includes the opportunity to play in the EuroCup, the second most important competition among those organized by EuroLeague Basketball.

Only one issue remains to be resolved: the payment of the buyout, the final step before the official announcement. This step is considered a formality by insiders, but it is still a technical hurdle that is keeping the negotiations on hold. Once this is resolved, Mirza will finally be able to embrace the Roman project and close the Friuli chapter of his career.

The Rome-based club, which got off to a late start in the transfer market due to the lengthy bureaucratic procedures involved in the transfer of the franchise from Brescia, is thus counting on Alibegovic to add an experienced player to the roster—one who, incidentally, holds an Italian passport: a factor that is anything but secondary, as it allows Maxima Roma to avoid using slots reserved for foreign players and to operate with greater freedom on the international market, where it intends to secure additional reinforcements to complete the roster.
