Alpine Skiing: Heading to Sölden—Excitement Builds for Sofia Goggia

In Italy, temperatures remain high even though we’re already halfway through September, but for the world of alpine skiing, the new season has already begun. Preparations for the season opener in Sölden are in full swing, and the various teams are wrapping up their training camps on the snow.
Among the Italian women’s team, however, attention has focused primarily on Sofia Goggia in recent hours. The Bergamo-born champion’s schedule has, in fact, undergone an unexpected change, making her path for the coming weeks less clear.
Goggia has cut short her stay in South America, where she was engaged in preseason training. After her time in Ushuaia, she was supposed to travel to La Parva, Chile, to focus on a specific training phase for the speed disciplines. However, this move did not materialize as originally planned.
The decision came as something of a surprise, especially since her training had appeared to be proceeding as usual until the middle of last week. In particular, Goggia had been training in the giant slalom without showing any signs that would suggest an early return to Italy.
Meanwhile, in Ushuaia, the other members of the Italian women’s team—including Elena Curtoni and Laura Pirovano—continue their preparations. For Goggia, the reigning super-G World Cup champion, it remains to be seen what her preparation schedule for the new season will be and, above all, what reasons led to the change in her schedule.
