Jannik Sinner and Greg Rusedski surprise everyone by jumping right into the debate

Greg Rusedski jumps right into the debate involving Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Alexander Zverev. The former British tennis player, on his podcast “Off Court,” has in fact praised the German in no uncertain terms, going so far as to call him the absolute best of the season—even ahead of the South Tyrolean (winner of Wimbledon in 2026 and no fewer than five Masters 1000 titles) and the player from Murcia (who completed his Career Grand Slam in Melbourne earlier this year).

Rusedski, in particular, emphasized how the German was able to capitalize on the opportunities he had in the most important tournaments: “When he won Roland Garros, he did so with immense pressure on his shoulders, because everyone expected him to win after Sinner’s elimination. Then he also managed to win the US Open title, as the No. 1 seed and with all eyes on him.”

“For me, given his results at the Majors, Zverev is the best player on the planet this year,” declared the former world No. 4. He’s a great tennis player; anyone who doubted him before this year was way off base. Winning a Grand Slam isn’t easy, and he’s faced opponents like Roger Federer, Rafa Nadal, and Novak Djokovic, and more recently, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz.”

“Of course, Sinner and Alcaraz have had to deal with physical issues that have limited their consistency throughout the season, but this created a challenging situation for Zverev, who had everything to lose as the favorite. That’s another reason why I consider him the best this year—not just because of his individual results.”

Rusedski now expects Zverev to raise the bar even higher and pose an even greater threat to Jannik Sinner, the current world No. 1, and Carlos Alcaraz: “All the top players say he has the best serve among the pros, but that’s not the only thing working in his favor: I’m convinced that there’s another ‘Big Three’ at the top of men’s tennis because Zverev has taken that decisive step.”
