Olimpia in the EuroLeague: Moses Wright Sends a Clear Message

Moses Wright, born in Raleigh, North Carolina, on December 23, 1998, is an American center who has become a naturalized Macedonian citizen. Standing 207 cm tall, he tried to make a name for himself in the NBA with the Clippers and the Mavericks. In 2022, he moved to China. Last season he played for Kaunas, and he is now on the roster of Olimpia Milano. La Gazzetta dello Sport interviewed him.

“I made this choice because I felt I deserved a better opportunity,” he began. “There are players here I can learn from—people who have won the EuroLeague, like Peters, Hall, and Guduric. We can build something special. No one came here on vacation. We know how hard it is to win in the EuroLeague, but we also know what we’re capable of.”

“Olimpia is a great club,” he added. “When you step onto the court, you know you have the responsibility of representing a brand like this. Poeta gets you involved; he makes sure everyone feels comfortable on the court. Having been a great player in Italy, he has basketball IQ and knowledge to pass on. We’re all learning from him.”

Olimpia Milano is a regular fixture in the EuroLeague, a tournament it has played in continuously since the 2007–2008 season and will continue to compete in thanks to its multi-year license. Its last title, however, dates back to the days when the competition was held under the auspices of FIBA and was known as the Champions Cup, in 1987–1988, when the red-and-white team led by Franco Casalini defeated Maccabi Tel Aviv 90–84 in the final, repeating the previous year’s success with Dan Peterson as head coach.
