Ducati: Tardozzi Explains Marc Marquez’s Troubles: “We Didn’t Expect This”

A tough weekend in Austria for Ducati: at the Red Bull Ring, KTM rider Pedro Acosta triumphed ahead of three Aprilia bikes. The highest-finishing Ducati was Marc Marquez’s, who finished in fifth place despite a brake issue.

Lenovo team manager Davide Tardozzi didn’t beat around the bush: “It’s clear that our rivals are competitive. They’ve been competitive since the end of last year, and by now, every rider on that bike is able to go fast. We need to work to try to turn this situation around and give Marc, Pecco, and the other Ducati riders something extra in the season finale. I believe Gigi Dall’Igna is the first to be dissatisfied with this situation. I have no doubt that he’ll try to find a solution, either by bringing something new or making adjustments ahead of the upcoming races.”

Marc Marquez’s problems during the race: “He said he had brake issues. Personally, I don’t know the details yet, but I’m sure Gigi and the other engineers are already analyzing the data to understand exactly what happened. We trust him, and we’ll try to pinpoint the problem that held him back,” according to GPone.

The title race has gotten more complicated: “The World Championship is still wide open. We didn’t expect to lose so many points here, but we have to give them credit. Now it’s up to us to bounce back in the upcoming races. There are at least a couple of tracks where, based on recent history, our rivals are much more competitive than we are. It won’t be easy: the championship is still wide open, but the situation has become quite complicated.”
