2026 Davis Cup Draw: Italy’s Path Set; South Korea Is First Opponent

South Korea will be Italy’s opponent in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Davis Cup. The draw for the Final Eight—which will determine the winner of the famous “Insalatiera”—took place in Bologna. The event is scheduled to be held in the Emilian capital from November 24 to 29. Italy enters the tournament as the defending champion, buoyed by its victories in the 2024 and 2025 editions, and with the goal of once again claiming the world title. The Azzurri had secured automatic qualification as the host country.

The Finals will be played in a single-elimination format. Each matchup will consist of two singles matches and, if necessary, a decisive doubles match. The team that reaches two wins first will advance to the next round. A potential matchup with Spain or Germany—the other two highly anticipated powerhouses of the Final Eight—could therefore only take place in the final, since all three national teams in question were seeded for this draw. The Spanish team will face Austria in the quarterfinals, while Alexander Zverev’s Germany will take on Great Britain.

The attention of Italian fans will inevitably also be focused on Jannik Sinner’s situation. The world No. 1 is still in the midst of his recovery from the injury that has kept him off the courts in recent weeks, and no final decisions have yet been made regarding his potential participation in the final stage. Captain Filippo Volandri recently reiterated that the top priority remains the South Tyrolean champion’s full recovery, postponing any assessment until later.

Regardless of Sinner’s presence, Italy arrives in Bologna with high ambitions and the knowledge that it is one of the most feared teams in the draw.
